Surrogacy Information – get your questions answered
You say that you work globally, but in what countries do you specifically operate?
The Repromedicine SEDA is constantly growing its geography. Though, we accept Intended Parents from almost all over the world, currently, we carry out the programs in Ukraine, Russia, Georgia and Mexico.
Ukrainian legislation is very favorable for realization of gestational surrogacy programs for married couples. It’s mandatory that one of Intended Parents is genetically related to a baby, — only then a couple is considered to be legal parents.
Another important thing is that a surrogate mother can’t claim any parental rights on a baby – that automatically makes the Intended Parents secured in legal perspective, and it means that only Intended Parents will be indicated in the birth certificate as a mother and a father.
The peculiarity of the Russian legislation, — where gestational surrogacy is allowed not only for married couples but for single parents or Intended Parents that are not in the official marriage, besides single women can use even a sperm donor services within a surrogacy program, — significantly broaden the range of services that can be provided for Intended Parents. Similar is the situation in Mexico — so it gives the Intended Parents even more options in gestational surrogacy.
How long should I wait to be matched with a surrogate mother?
If there are no medically conditioned reasons, there are no factors to delay your program, so practically the waiting time is the time to find, to tests and to approve your surrogate mother (gestational carrier). After that step is completed, normally it doesn’t take more than 2 weeks for stimulation and synchronization stage.
How long will I stay in the host country after my baby is born?
Mostly, it depends on the country of your citizenship. Generally, the Intended Parents from the USA needs to count on 1-1,5 month, from Argentina, Canada, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Portugal — about 2 – 2,5 months, from UK, Australia, Sweden — up to 3 months, Finland — up to 4 months. If we haven’t listed your country — feel free to ask us directly.
How my marital status does influence the program?
There are no requirements as to marital status if we are talking about IVF, egg donation or embryo adoption program. This point is raised only in case of surrogacy program: for married heterosexual couples we would offer programs in Ukraine, for same-sex couples and single parents we would offer programs in Russia or in Mexico.
How do I start?
The information regarding your surrogacy journey may be found here. But you may contact us in any suitable way — and we will work out your individual schedule.
How do I know that my surrogate mother doesn’t drink or smoke?
Women with addictive behavior do not have a chance to get into list of our surrogate mothers on the first place. But one cannot be too careful – so we run regular tests on all stages of the program: profiling, matching with the IP, pregnancy and birth.
Will you help me to get the passport for my baby?
This service is the part of every contract — we help you to obtain the birth certificate first, and after that — the passport for your baby.
Is an egg donor and a surrogate mother the same person?
No, they are two different women, as only gestational surrogacy is allowed in Ukraine, Russia and Mexico.
How many days do I stay in the host country for the initial consultation?
We try to arrange all the activities into one business day — on the other hand you might want to have some rest before and after the initial consultation — and we would say it’s a very reasonable approach. If we speak about the program in Russia, you need to be ready to stay about 3-5 days.
How many days will I be in a host country if I need stimulation?
Depending on your protocol estimated time of your stay may extend up to 2 weeks.
What if I need TESA or TESE – is surrogacy available for me?
Surrogacy is still an option, though the number of attempts and/or availability of offers may be limited for you.
