In-vitro Fertilization procedure step by step
IVF procedure consists of 5 main steps. Of course, some of them as many medical treatments aren’t physically pleasant, but none of them are horrible. Usually, all the IVF procedures are made ambulatory. In other words, there is no need to stay at the clinic after them.
Step 1. Ovarian stimulation
IVF procedure starts with ovary stimulation. Three protocols of stimulation are distinguished: long, super long and short. It depends on the peculiarities of an organism of each woman and, that’s why, is selected individually. At first, a patient is prepared for the stimulation with special medicines. In some time the maturing of follicles is also stimulated. US control is obligatory at this stage. Main aims: getting eggs which are eligible for fertilization; preparation of the uterine endometrium for the embryo reception.
Step 2. Follicles puncture
When follicles are mature enough, the puncture of ovaries is performed (always by the US control). During this procedure both egg and follicular liquid are taken from each follicle with a special needle. Received eggs are put into the culture medium where they “live” until the meeting with man’s sperm cells. In turn, man/donor have to deliver his sperm cells which is cultivated in a special way.
Step 3. Embryos Cultivation
At the step of IVF procedure specially cultivated sperm cells and received eggs are connected and transferred into the incubator with culture medium for the fertilization and further development. Embryos cultivation can last for 3-6 days.
Step 4. Transfer of embryos into the uterine cavity
Embryos are transferred with a special thin catheter in 3-5 days after the fertilization. This procedure is absolutely painless and doesn’t have any harmful influence neither for a mother nor a child. According to the modern standards, to avoid polycarpous pregnancy nor more than 2 embryos are transferred. Other embryos are cryo-preservated. After this, a patient begins to follow the supporting hormone therapy.
Step 5. Pregnancy testing
The most effective and significant method of pregnancy testing at early stages is HCG (human chorionic gonadothrophin) blood testing . Due to such a test, pregnancy can be tested even on the 12th day after the embryo transfer. Then, if a woman is pregnant, everything is going on naturally and in 9 months a little desired “wonder” is given a birth. It’s necessary to take into account that first IVF cycle is not always successful. But it’s not a reason to give way to despair. IVF procedure is not an easy task. There were cases, when only the 4th IVF attempt ends with pregnancy. And, that’s why, you should be ready to wait and hope.At our site you can get to know more useful information connected with all aspect of IVF. So, please take your time to browse through it.
